From an early age, my dad would always take the family to watch races. I think the first time I went to the racetrack I would have been about 5 for the Muscle Car Masters which were held on Fatherโ€™s Day – it was always dadโ€™s Fatherโ€™s Day present to go watch some racing.
.
Growing up we always had paddock bashers, so I learnt to drive manual when I was just 6 years old. Throughout my childhood being at racetracks regularly I always dreamt of becoming a racecar driver, but money always held us back, so I never competed in karting or anything.
.
When I was about 8 or 9, we got an RX7 and by the time I was 14 dad decided it was going to be a fun motorkhana car, thatโ€™s when we started entering events. Eventually when I was 16, we put a cage in the car and took it up to Jon Waterhouse to get some work done that we couldnโ€™t do ourselves at home.
.
From then we competed in Track Days at Wakefield Park in the RX7 and after falling in love with Jonโ€™s workshop I moved out of home and became his apprentice at the age of 17. Through Jonโ€™s connections I ended up hearing about RX8 cup and with dads help, put together the money to buy a cup car and compete in a race for the first time when I was 18 under the guidance of Phil at RaceAway.

Since my last event with RaceAway I have been continuing in the RX8 cup Series, including our most recent round at Morgan Park. I had a lot of plans to do endurance races and other small events but since this last lockdown we have had to put a hold on those plans.

My first helmet was just a motorbike helmet I got when I was 14 to compete in the motokhanas but I brought my first circuit helmet when I was 18, which was the same time I bought the cup car.

My favourite track is definitely Wakefield Park because thatโ€™s where I first drove, but the most amazing circuit Iโ€™ve ever driven is The Bend in SA.

When Iโ€™m not racing Iโ€™m either at work (as a qualified mechanic), playing with rotaries or down the coast at my parentโ€™s house building racecars with my dad.

During the lockdown I have been continuing to work, while also catching up on some of my own projects. I have blown the engine up in my road car so now has been the perfect time for me to get it back onto the road as well as fix up a bit of the bodywork.

Being able to go down to the South Coast to see my family and work on the racecars. Iโ€™m hoping we get another race in this year but as long as I get to see my family for Christmas, Iโ€™ll be happy!

NSW Racing Roadmap To Freedom ๐Ÿ

With the light at the end of the lockdown tunnel slowly appearing we’re warming up our engines and preparing to get back out on the track.

Earlier this week we saw the NSW Roadmap to Freedom released by the Government suggesting that by late October โ€œstay-at-home orders for adults who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be lifted from the Monday after NSW passes the 70% double vaccination target.โ€

For the motorsport & racing community, the latest media release also suggests that once theย double vaccine target has been hit in NSW โ€œmajor recreation outdoor facilities including stadiums and racecourses can reopen with 1 person per 4 sqm, capped at 5000 people.โ€ย

At this stage, per the NSW Health guidelines, these said freedoms will only be made available to individuals who have been double vaccinated or who have an exception.

Keeping the above in mind, if all targets have been met we hope to get back racing at the end of October with the first event being held by MRA at Sydney Motorsport Park on October 23rd. Categories for the Motor Race Australia event include APRA Pulsars, MX5 Cup, Series X3 Excels and NSW PSC – Production Car Series. Entries lookingย to open October 4th.

Until then..ย stay safe and brush those cobwebs off your cars!
